carrot roll cake with Woolwich Original Fresh Soft Goat Cheese | #ad

First you’ll notice that this is a roll cake. I’ve never seen a carrot roll cake before, and was a little nervous about how it would work, but it was a dream! Of course I went through a few rounds of testing, some were hilariously bad...haha, but the result is a perfectly fluffy cake that bakes up in about 10 minutes! Then I decided to do a fresh take on the classic pairing of cream cheese frosting, and instead used Woolwich Dairy’s Original Soft Fresh Goat Cheese paired with brown butter. I’m obsessed with this goat cheese as it’s such a unique flavour, is made with Canadian goat milk, and it complemented the warm spices in the carrot cake so well.

blood orange citrus sheet cake with blood orange butter cream

Guess who finally found BLOOD ORANGES!!! I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for them since November…hahaha, but they only just showed up in the last couple weeks! I will be 100% honest and say that my obsession is purely based on looks, as their taste isn’t that much different than your average orange. But how fun is it to cut into a normal looking orange, and be rewarded with gorgeous shades of red? And I’ve been so delighted to play around with their natural colour in a few different recipes!

funfetti vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream // aka the perfect birthday cake

Happy Happy New Year friends!

Honestly, I’m not too sad to see 2018 go, and am very much looking forward to 2019 being a fresh start! Resolution always seem to mean well, but I find they’re often too much pressure. And then you mess up and go…well, I guess I have to wait until next year to try again! So I’ve stopped making New Year’s Resolutions, but I do believe that it can be a useful time for reflection and goal planning. What do you want to do with your life? How can you move towards those goals in the next 365 days? Maybe that means making reasonable, bite-sized goals for each month, or chatting with friends to keep you accountable. Don’t feel like you have to change every thing in your life in all at once! Make small, sustainable changes, and go from there!

brown sugar spiced cake with browned butter frosting and caramel drip / this is 28

This is 28. I don’t normally share much personal stuff around here, but today is a little different. Scroll to the bottom if you’re just here for the recipe!

27 was such a crazy, crazy year for me and my family, and held so much loss in the 365 days it was around. Our family farm was dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic fire that had destroyed our country market and cold storage right at the start of our harvest season, we spent the Winter recovering and preparing to rebuild, my grandpa passed away from terminal cancer, and my grandma followed him exactly one month later unexpectedly. We spent the Spring and Summer months working tirelessly to get our new building finished and approved, and were able to do so just a couple days before opening for the 2018 season!

Oh hey friends! I am so so excited to be sharing this wonderfully simple pumpkin sheet cake with you today! It's completely no-fuss, and serves a crowd beautifully. The maple drizzle makes it look extra fancy, but it really is the easiest thing ever. I'd say that's a win win situation.

Living on a pumpkin farm means that I have an abundance of pumpkins at my disposal, and I always end up making cake a few times during the Fall season. There’s something about pumpkins that is so magical, and the fact that you can bake with them is so fun! A dash of cinnamon and allspice complement the pumpkin flavour so well, and we top the cake with fluffy vanilla frosting, and finish it off with the maple drizzle. Simple decadence at its best. What also makes this recipe unique, is that it’s lactose free! I have a few friends who can’t have lactose, and it’s so perfect to have a few recipes up my sleeve that they can enjoy. I used Dairyland Plus TruTaste Lactose Free 1% Milk in the cake, and it worked perfectly.
