27 was such a crazy, crazy year for me and my family, and held so much loss in the 365 days it was around. Our family farm was dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic fire that had destroyed our country market and cold storage right at the start of our harvest season, we spent the Winter recovering and preparing to rebuild, my grandpa passed away from terminal cancer, and my grandma followed him exactly one month later unexpectedly. We spent the Spring and Summer months working tirelessly to get our new building finished and approved, and were able to do so just a couple days before opening for the 2018 season!

They taste like Fall even before I drizzled them with caramel (an optional, but totally not optional addition), and they make your house smell like HEAVEN. Since they have apple chunks in them, I find that they’re at their best on the same day you bake them, but they do freeze well if you manage not to devour them all in one sitting. My family’s been in full on apple mode for a whole month now on our apple farm! So you could say that apples have been on my mind A LOT lately. I’m pretty sure that picking apples on a foggy morning in Fall is one of my very favourite things to do in the world. Seriously magic. Now, go find a local apple farm, and go pick some apples…and then make these magical muffins. Just do it!

Read MoreYou'll also notice that this pie has a crumb topping. I love the double crust just like any other sane person, but sometimes I just want those crumbs! I feel like this pie is the perfect marriage of your classic apple pie and apple crisp. Also, it's less work than rolling out a top and obsessing about getting your crimps/braids/cut outs just right. That's a win win in my book!
