blood orange doughnuts with blood orange glaze

Today we’re talking about fluffy fluffy DOUGHNUTS. They have the freshest zest of blood orange in them, and I can’t get enough of them.

This doughnut recipe is seriously so simple, and the options for the toppings are endless! I chose a pink blood orange glaze with a splatter of gold, but you could simply roll in powdered sugar or granulated sugar, glaze with a thin plain glaze, or choose the glaze type of your choice. I think a rich chocolate glaze would go so perfectly with the zesty orange flavour of the doughnuts too! And of course, you can swap out the blood orange with any citrus…yay!

Guess who finally found BLOOD ORANGES!!! I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for them since November…hahaha, but they only just showed up in the last couple weeks! I will be 100% honest and say that my obsession is purely based on looks, as their taste isn’t that much different than your average orange. But how fun is it to cut into a normal looking orange, and be rewarded with gorgeous shades of red? And I’ve been so delighted to play around with their natural colour in a few different recipes!

Happy Happy New Year friends!

Honestly, I’m not too sad to see 2018 go, and am very much looking forward to 2019 being a fresh start! Resolution always seem to mean well, but I find they’re often too much pressure. And then you mess up and go…well, I guess I have to wait until next year to try again! So I’ve stopped making New Year’s Resolutions, but I do believe that it can be a useful time for reflection and goal planning. What do you want to do with your life? How can you move towards those goals in the next 365 days? Maybe that means making reasonable, bite-sized goals for each month, or chatting with friends to keep you accountable. Don’t feel like you have to change every thing in your life in all at once! Make small, sustainable changes, and go from there!

cranberry curd shortbread tart

I always feel like cranberries don’t get enough love when it comes to desserts, so this year I wanted to come up with a recipe where they were really the star of the show. So I whipped up some cranberry curd and paired it with a shortbread crust, for a simple, yet stunning tart. I topped it with a few sugared cranberries, rosemary, and meringues. Whipped cream would also be a great option if you don’t want to fuss with meringues! You can always use a star tip to pipe on whipped cream to make it look even fancier.

Christmas cookie box // a Christmas baking round-up

For as long as I can remember, my mom has made a bunch of different kinds of Christmas cookies, barks, bars, etc, and packaged them up on plates for gifts! Most people these days don’t really need anything for Christmas, but homemade baking is always appreciated. You can never have too many cookies, right?

chocolate dipped candied oranges

Hey hey friends! I had several requests over on instagram to share my “recipe” for candied oranges, and I’m very pleased to inform you that it is one of the easiest things ever! Basically all we’re doing is boiling water and sugar together to make a syrup, and then throwing in the oranges slices in with it to get nice and soft and sweet. And yes, the peel becomes soft and sweet too, and is meant to be eaten along with the rest of the orange!
